I always ate Hamburger Pie as a kid and I love to use that as inspo and transform this childhood memory into a fun new recipe! Here is a simple twist on my Hamburger Pie recipe and it involves wonton wrappers!
Note: You will need a muffin pan for this recipe
- 1 lb. organic beef
- 1/4 of a large red onion, diced
- 7 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 lb. sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
- 1/4 lb. pepper jack cheese, shredded
- 1 can organic mixed veggies, drained
- 1 tsp. basil
- Smoked salt and pepper to taste
- 24 wonton wrappers
- 1 tomato, diced (optional)
- scallions, chopped (optional)
- your favorite pickles (optional)
- sesame seeds (optional)
Start by browning the beef. While the beef is browning, break into small pieces with a wooden spatula. Add your red onion when the beef is about halfway done. Once your beef is fully browned and the onion is fragrant and soft, add in your garlic. Turning the heat to about medium, add in the mixed vegetables and the shredded cheese.
Season the mixture with basil, salt, and pepper. I used ground basil but any type of basil will work, fresh or dried.
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
Stir your mixture and taste. Adjust flavors by adding more seasonings as necessary.
Get ready to fill up these cute little wonton wrappers with this cheesy and delicious filling and bake them until they’re crispy and perfect!
I used two wontons for each one. Turn the two wrappers so the corners don’t line up (see picture below). Place the wontons in a greased muffin pan. Once you have lined the muffin pan with the wonton wrappers, scoop your filling into each one. I like to fill them pretty full! Place your muffin pan in the oven for about 15-20 minutes. Everything inside is cooked so you just want your wontons to get all crispy and delicious!
